Privacy

This page explains what Academic Radar collects when you visit, and why. We keep this simple and don't share anything with advertisers or data brokers.

What we collect

Every time you load a page, we record:

From this, we can work out roughly how long a visit lasted and which pages were viewed in sequence. We don't use cookies for this, and we don't track you across other websites.

How location is determined

Location is looked up from your IP address using a database we host ourselves (MaxMind's GeoLite2). Your IP is never sent to a third-party service to do this — the lookup happens entirely on our own server.

Accounts and notifications

If you create an account to receive email notifications, we store your email address and a securely hashed password (we cannot see your actual password). We use your email only to send the notification digests you've opted into, and account-related messages like email confirmation. You can unsubscribe from notifications at any time via the link in every digest email.

Who sees this data

Visit data and account information are visible only to the site administrator, for understanding traffic and improving the site. We don't sell, share, or otherwise disclose it to any third party.

How long we keep it

Visit and account data is retained indefinitely for our own reference. If you'd like your account or visit data deleted, contact us using the email below.
